Ireland: Festivals, Castles, and the Emerald Isle Experience

Oct 11, 2023

Hello from Wish List Travel, your local Northwest Arkansas travel agency! This summer has been busy and hot, but one of the highlights for us was gathering at Nellie B’s, our favorite local bakery, for a French pastries night. We had such a fun time chatting about travel with everyone who joined us. Our next free event is an Italian night at Nellie B’s on August 24 at 6 p.m., and you’re invited!

We also have some exciting news coming soon. Wish List Travel will be partnering with a new host agency, which means better perks and benefits for all our clients. If you haven’t already, join our Wish List Travel Facebook group so you don’t miss the announcement.

Destination Spotlight: Ireland

Ireland, often called the Emerald Isle, is one of Europe’s most magical destinations. It’s a land of rolling green hills, dramatic coastlines, and villages that look like they came straight out of a storybook. The country is also rich in history—you’ll find medieval castles, ancient cathedrals, and centuries-old traditions around every corner.

But what makes Ireland truly unforgettable is its people. The Irish are known for their warm hospitality, lively pub culture, and deep love of music. Visitors can step into a pub in Dublin or Galway and instantly feel like part of the family, often with traditional music playing late into the night.

Food lovers will also find plenty to enjoy. Ireland is famous for hearty stews, fresh seafood, and locally brewed beer and whiskey. A bowl of Irish stew with a pint of Guinness is the perfect way to end a day of sightseeing.

Festivals Worth Planning Around

If you’re someone who loves experiencing local culture, Ireland’s festivals make for unforgettable trips. Here are some of the best times to visit:

  • Summer (July): Galway International Arts Festival – One of Ireland’s biggest arts events, featuring theater, music, and visual arts.
  • Autumn (October): Cork Jazz Festival – A world-class jazz festival with over 1,000 musicians from around the globe.
  • Winter (January): Temple Bar TradFest – A lively celebration of traditional Irish music and culture in Dublin.
  • Spring (March): St. Patrick’s Festival – The world-famous celebration in Dublin, filled with parades, music, and Irish pride.

Top Things to Do in Ireland

  • Tour ancient castles like Blarney Castle or Dublin Castle
  • Drive along the Wild Atlantic Way, one of the world’s most scenic coastal routes
  • Visit the Cliffs of Moher for jaw-dropping ocean views
  • Explore Dublin’s Trinity College and see the Book of Kells
  • Enjoy an evening of traditional Irish music in a cozy pub

Travel Tip of the Month: Packing Smarter

Before your next trip, keep these three essentials in mind:

  • Know Your Weight Limits: Airlines have strict luggage limits, so check before you pack and leave space for souvenirs.
  • Plan Your Outfits: Mix-and-match clothing saves space and makes packing easier.
  • Use Compression Cubes: These keep clothes neat and tightly packed, maximizing luggage space.

Client Corner: Recent Adventures

Our favorite part of being travel advisors is hearing about the incredible journeys our clients take. Here are a few highlights from recent trips:

  • A Rhine River cruise ending in Switzerland’s stunning landscapes
  • An exploration of Scotland’s castles and mysterious Highlands
  • A fun-filled family getaway to Cancun’s beaches and turquoise waters

These adventures inspire us—and we hope they inspire you to add new destinations to your own wish list.

FAQs About Traveling to Ireland

Is Ireland good for families?
Yes! Ireland’s castles, open spaces, and friendly culture make it a great destination for families.

Do I need a car in Ireland?
It depends. Major cities are walkable, and trains connect many towns, but renting a car is the best way to explore the countryside and coastlines.

What’s the weather like?
Ireland is green for a reason—it gets plenty of rain! Pack layers and a good rain jacket year-round.

How long should I plan for a trip?
A week allows you to see highlights like Dublin, Galway, and the Cliffs of Moher. Ten days or more gives you time to explore further into the countryside.
